Short Stay Unit

The Heart Institute Short Stay Unit provides same-day pre- and post-op surgery services. This dedicated unit is designed to meet the specific needs of all cardiovascular outpatients entering our facilities. ACLS-certified registered nurses and support staff have demonstrated competency in the care of cardiovascular patients and are trained to help patients and their families navigate their own continuum of care, including:

• The admission process
• Procedure preparation and teaching
• Post procedure care and teaching
• Discharge

Preparing patients with information and education prior to and following procedures allows patients to:

• Ask important questions
• Understand their options and increase compliance with postoperative care
• Become a member of their own health care team
