Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Hosts Walk to Remember October 11

Mount Sterling, Ky. (September 30, 2015) — No amount of time can fully heal the heartbreak parents experience after a failed pregnancy or the loss of a child. Saint Joseph Mount Sterling, part of KentuckyOne Health will host its Walk to Remember event on Sunday, October 11, 2015 for families to remember the loss of a child – whether through miscarriage, infant death, disease or accident.

Each year in October, Saint Joseph Mount Sterling sponsors a Walk to Remember and invites those who have experienced such tragedies to an afternoon of remembrance. The event will be held at Easy Walker Park (1395 Osborne Rd.) at 2 p.m.

The service concludes with the release of balloons attached to notes, prayers or names in memory of a lost child. The event includes individuals who experienced a loss several years ago, as well as those who recently lost a child.

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 10-25 percent of all clinically recognized pregnancies end in miscarriage and in most healthy women the average is about a 15-20 percent.

According to the American Pregnancy Association, after women have completed the three step grieving process for a miscarriage: denial, anger and acceptance, it is crucial to seek counseling and support from those around them so they can properly begin to heal.

“The loss of a child is devastating and it is important for parents to know that they are not alone through this hardship,” said Shelly Sanders, RN, Manager, Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Women’s Care Department. “The Walk to Remember is a beautiful day that brings together families who have suffered through similar life-traumas. It is a great support system for these parents to have. ”

In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the lobby of Saint Joseph Mount Sterling. For more information about the Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Walk to Remember, contact the Women’s Care department at 859.497.5460.
