Saint Joseph London to Host Walk to Remember on October 2
Event brings families together who have been affected by infant loss

London, Ky. (September 27, 2016) — No amount of time can fully heal the heartbreak parents experience after the loss of a child – whether through miscarriage, infant death, disease or accident. To help bring families together to remember, share and hope, Saint Joseph London, part of KentuckyOne Health, will host its annual Walk to Remember event on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016 at 2 p.m. at the Saint Joseph London Walking Path.

Each year in October, Saint Joseph London sponsors a Walk to Remember and invites those who have experienced such tragedies to a Sunday afternoon service of remembrance. The service includes a blessing, walk around the lake, poem reading, and concludes with the release of balloons attached to notes, prayers or names in memory of a child.

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 10-25 percent of all clinically recognized pregnancies end in miscarriage. Often after a miscarriage, women will experience denial, anger, grief and acceptance. During this time, it is crucial to seek counseling and support from those around them to help begin to heal.

“The loss of a child is devastating, and for many families, it’s something that is hard to overcome,” said Paula Marcum, RN, Saint Joseph London Birthing Center. “This event brings families together to remember their loved ones, share stories, and heal together.”
