Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Recognizes 2021 Physician of the Year; 2021 Advanced Practice Provider of the Year

MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (Dec. 1, 2021) – Saint Joseph Mount Sterling recently recognized Ronald Humphrey, MD, as the the 2021 Physician of the Year, and Shelly Sanders, APRN, as the 2021 Advanced Practice Provider of the Year. Dr. Humphrey, of Mount Sterling, is a family medicine physician, and Shelly Sanders, of Owingsville, is manager of the cancer center at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling. Sanders was also named CHI Saint Joseph Health’s overall Advanced Practice Provider of the Year for 2021.

The hospital annually recognizes an outstanding Physician of the Year who works to bring wellness, healing and hope to patients and families, as well as exhibits the core values of reverence, integrity, compassion and excellence.

Dr. Humphrey was nominated by one of his colleagues.

“Dr. Humphrey is fair, intelligent, and consistent in demonstrating all of these values,” said his colleague. “He has repeatedly spoken with compassion and conviction regarding various important topics that have been discussed and has served his role as treasurer over the last two years with integrity. I've spoken with him personally regarding many issues and he has always led with excellence, inclusion and collaboration. He is a bright spot when he comes through my office.”

Sanders was also nominated by one of her colleagues.

“Shelly always goes the extra mile to make sure our department has what we need, and is always there for us so that we can provide the best care for our patients,” said Sanders’ colleague.

Both recipients were honored during a special virtual ceremony.
