Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Foundation Awarded Grant
to Establish New Comfort Program for Cancer Patients
Joyful Comfort & Healing Program to improve patient experience

Mt. Sterling, Ky. (April 6, 2018) - The Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Foundation, part of KentuckyOne Health, has received a $10,327 grant from the Lexington Cancer Foundation to establish a new program that will help cancer patients who are receiving treatment at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling.

Through this grant, the Joyful Comfort & Healing Program will be created at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling, and the foundation will be able to purchase four reclining chairs to use in the infusion center that will improve patient comfort as patients fighting cancer are receiving treatment.

"These additions to the infusion center at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling will improve the hospital experience for patient's battling cancer, helping to also provide additional compassionate comfort to them," said Leslie Smart, president, Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Foundation. "We are thrilled to once again expand our treatment area, giving patients the care they need in a welcoming environment."

In 2016, Saint Joseph Mount Sterling opened the infusion center on the first floor of the hospital, expanding infusion options for patients. The infusion center previously had 10 reclining chairs for cancer patients to use. With the addition of the new chairs, the center will offer 14 chairs.

The infusion center at Saint Joseph Mount Sterling provides intravenous infusions of fluids, medications and therapeutic injections, in an accessible environment. Infusion therapy is particularly beneficial for patients that cannot take medications by mouth.

The infusion center offers a full-scale of infusion services for patients with conditions such as anemia, Crohn's disease, CIPD, immune deficiency, multiple sclerosis, neuropathy, polymyositis, rheumatoid arthritis and ulcerative colitis.
