Saint Joseph London Volunteers Donate Emergency Room Lift
New equipment will ensure safety for patients, staff
London, Ky. (October 11, 2013)—Thanks to the generosity of the volunteers at Saint Joseph London, part of KentuckyOne Health, the emergency department has received a PowerFlexx Lift, which allows medical professionals to lift and transfer patients safely to a stretcher or wheelchair.
The PowerFlexx lift uses hydraulics to lift up to 700 lbs. without risking the safety of the medical professionals performing the patient transfer. This equipment is ideal for patients who arrive at the emergency room in their own vehicle but are unable to walk or lift themselves.
The Saint Joseph London Gift Shop, run entirely by volunteers, donated $9,200 for the purchase of the lift.
“The addition of this battery operated lift will result in less strain and possible injury of the staff, as well as increased safety and confidence for our patients,” said Wilson Rawlings, an Emergency Department Volunteer at Saint Joseph London.
Proceeds from the gift shop fund a number of programs including annual scholarships, Breakfast with Santa, and projects and equipment for the hospital, including the PowerFlexx lift.
