Saint Joseph London Receives “A” in Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score - Archived

 

 

London, Ky. (November 11, 2013)— Saint Joseph London, part of KentuckyOne Health, received an “A” in the recently released Hospital Safety Scores from The Leapfrog Group.

The Fall 2013 update to The Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Score assigned A, B, C, D and F grades to more than 2,500 U.S. general hospitals. The Hospital Safety Score is calculated under the guidance of the Leapfrog Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, with a fully transparent methodology analyzed in the peer-reviewed Journal of Patient Safety. 

Leapfrog, an independent, national nonprofit organization that administers the Score, is an advocate for patient safety nationwide.

The Hospital Safety Score empowers patients to make informed decisions about the safety of hospital care and is one piece of information you should use when planning a hospital stay.

The safety measurements the Hospital Safety Score considers represent the very basic blocks of medical care, such as hand-washing, computerized medication control and nurse staffing levels.

In the most recent data, Leapfrog added two new measures to the latest Hospital Safety Score release, including Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs) and Surgical Site Infections: Colon (SSI: Colon). CAUTI and SSI: Colon are among the 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data used to produce a single grade representing a hospital’s overall safety rating.
