Saint Joseph London Hosts Walk to Remember October 5

London, Ky. (September 18, 2014) — Saint Joseph London, part of KentuckyOne Health will host its Walk to Remember event on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014 for families to remember the loss of a child – whether through miscarriage, infant death, disease or accident.

Pregnancy loss or the death of a child is a heartbreak that hardly fades with time. Each year in October, Saint Joseph London sponsors a Walk to Remember and invites those who have experienced such heartbreak to a Sunday afternoon of remembrance. The event will be held at the Saint Joseph London Lake Path at 2 p.m.

The service concludes with the release of balloons attached to notes, prayers or names in memory of a lost child. The event often includes individuals who experienced a loss many years ago, as well as those who just recently lost a child.

According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, 10-25 percent of all clinically recognized pregnancies end in miscarriage and in most healthy women the average is about a 15-20 percent.

“The loss of a child is devastating and it is important for parents who experience this type of loss to feel loved and comforted,” said Mary Jo Westerfield, OB Director at Saint Joseph London. “The Walk to Remember is a beautiful day of remembrance that also connects parents who have lost a child with others who have a shared experience for support.”
