Saint Joseph London Hosts Go Red for Women Heart Health Awareness Luncheon - 2019 - Archived
London, Ky. (February 11, 2019) — As part of the national effort to increase awareness of cardiovascular disease in women, Saint Joseph London is partnering with the American Heart Association to host a Go Red for Women Lunch & Learn event.
The event will take place from 10:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, at the London Community Center, located at 529 South Main Street. Free screenings will be offered from 10:30-11:45 a.m. for blood pressure, blood glucose, body mass index, cholesterol, oxygen saturation and varicose veins. Lunch and a presentation will be held from noon-1 p.m.
The free event will feature Shelly Stanko, MD, CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Primary Care, who will discuss how heart disease affects women differently and what they can do to lower their risk.
February is American Heart Month, a time to help spread awareness about how to prevent heart disease and to encourage people to live heart-healthy lives. According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the number one killer of women, and a staggering 90 percent of women have one or more risk factors for developing heart disease or stroke. Statistics show that 80 percent of heart disease and stroke events in women may be prevented by lifestyle changes and education.
