Saint Joseph London Announced as Healthgrades Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Pneumonia and Gastrointestinal Conditions

LONDON, Ky. (Oct. 24, 2023) – Saint Joseph London has achieved two Five-Star ratings for specialty care for pneumonia and gastrointestinal outcomes, according to new research released by Healthgrades, the leading resource consumers use to find a hospital or doctor. This is the fourth year in a row that Saint Joseph London has received a Five-Star rating for pneumonia outcomes.

These Five-Star ratings reflect Saint Joseph London’s commitment to consistently deliver the best care available and place the organization in the upper echelon of hospitals for specialty care nationwide.

“Hospitals that receive this national designation have demonstrated exceptional patient outcomes in procedures and service lines, and it is an honor to be recognized by Healthgrades,” said John Yanes, president, Saint Joseph London. “We are dedicated to providing patients with the best care available, and when they come to Saint Joseph London for help, they can rest assured they are in the best hands possible.”

Healthgrades evaluates hospitals solely on clinical outcomes: risk-adjusted mortality and complications. By focusing on what matters most — patient outcomes — Healthgrades ratings provide critical feedback for both patients and hospitals. By offering easy access to objective performance measures, Healthgrades gives consumers the information they need to find a hospital that excels in providing the care they need. And by shining a light on strengths and weaknesses, Healthgrades ratings help direct hospitals to opportunities for clinical improvement. The 2024 hospital assessment evaluated patient mortality and complication rates for 35 common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to identify the top performers.

The 2024 Healthgrades analysis revealed that the variation in performance between Five-Star and one-star hospitals continues to widen, making it increasingly important to seek care at top-rated programs. From 2020 through 2022, if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to Five-Star hospitals, on average, 215,667 lives could potentially have been saved, and 149,521 patients could have avoided potential complications.*

“Healthgrades congratulates Saint Joseph London for being a national leader and demonstrating a deep commitment to providing high quality care to all patients,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades. “As health systems nationwide endeavor to elevate their quality of care, these elite facilities provide a roadmap for success. We commend Saint Joseph London for their dedication to excellence in patient care.”
