BEREA, Ky. (April 4, 2023) – Saint Joseph Jessamine has announced its 2022 Employee of the Year and Leader of the Year award recipients.
- Karen Newland, executive assistant, of Lexington, was recognized as Employee of the Year.
- Jade Saylor, managing nurse, emergency department, of Paint Lick, was recognized as Leader of the Year.
Each year, Saint Joseph Jessamine recognizes an Employee of the Year and Leader of the Year who go above and beyond their duties and demonstrate CHI Saint Joseph Health’s core values of reverence, integrity, compassion and excellence.
This year’s Saint Joseph Jessamine Employee of the Year is Karen Newland. From securing treats for the team to coordinating celebrations, Newland is known for “doing it all with a great attitude.”
“Karen is wonderful,” said a nominator. “She has contributed greatly to staff retention and satisfaction this year. Karen works efficiently and is always available when you need her. She communicates effectively with our patients and is always willing to stop what she is doing to talk with patients. Karen is a valued team member, and I am honored to work with her.”
Jade Saylor has been named this 2022’s Leader of the Year, recognized for her outstanding leadership in a managerial position.
“Jade shows compassion to employees by listening to their concerns and helping her team and assuring each team member has the tools to do their job safely, effectively, skilled and knowledgeable,” said a nominator. “She goes above and beyond to ensure the flow of the unit is constantly running as smoothly as possible and adjusts and looks for improvements when needed. Her passion for nursing shows in her daily work caring for her nurses. She has conversations with staff to speak with her team about their daily progress calmly. Jade introduces changes calmly to staff to decrease anxiety and help them adjust. To be a younger leader in a new position coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, she has flourished and shown great strength, being a positive and encouraging leader.”
All award winners were recently recognized during a special event and will be celebrated during the CHI Saint Joseph Health Foundations’ Humankindness Gala in Lexington on April 15.
