Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation Program Encourages Routine Screenings During COVID-19, Provides Resources

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 4, 2021) – During a time when many people have put off routine preventive health screenings due to COVID-19, the Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation’s newest cancer program, Yes, Cerv!, is here to help. Aiming to enable earlier cervical cancer diagnoses among medically underserved individuals, the program offers cervical cancer screenings and treatment at no cost to eligible patients across the hospitals, physician practices and clinics, and clinically integrated network of providers within CHI Saint Joseph Health.

“The goal of this program is to prevent cervical cancer through the promotion of Pap tests and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccinations, and to also provide patients with cervical cancer screenings, early-stage diagnoses and oncological pelvic treatment,” said Leslie Smart, CFRE, president, Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation. “The launch of this program couldn’t have happened at a better time, and will ultimately help save lives through preventive cervical cancer screenings, which is something we are very proud of.”

In late 2020, Yes, Cerv! launched through CHI Saint Joseph Health Partners, a clinically integrated network of more than 700 providers across Kentucky. Funding for the program was provided by the Kentucky Women's Cancer Screening Program (KWCSP), through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Breast and Cervical Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP).
