Saint Joseph Berea Recognizes Outstanding Medical Staff and Leaders With Awards

BEREA, Ky. (May 13, 2024) Saint Joseph Berea has announced its 2024 Physician of the Year, Advanced Practice Provider (APP) of the Year, Employee of the Year, and Leader of the Year award recipients. They will be recognized during the CHI Saint Joseph Health Foundations’ Humankindness Gala on Saturday, May 18. This year’s recipients are:

  • Physician of the Year - Asad Jadoon, MD, Richmond
  • APP of the Year - Reida Sowden, CRNA, Richmond
  • Employee of the Year - Teresa Fightmaster, specialty clinic RN lead, Richmond
  • Leader of the Year - Jackie Maynard, manager of Patient Quality and Safety, Berea

Each year, Saint Joseph Berea recognizes an outstanding Physician of the Year and APP of the Year who help build healthier communities and exhibit CHI Saint Joseph Health’s core values of compassion, inclusion, integrity, excellence and collaboration.

Dr. Asad Jadoon was nominated for Physician of the Year by his colleagues.

“Dr. Jadoon treats all of his patients with compassionate care. He is a caring individual who places others’ needs first,” said his nominator. “He makes sure his patients have basic needs met, whether it is food, clothing, or medication, in addition to appropriate health care needs. … He comes to our hospital to help those in critical need around the clock. He has provided countless hours around the clock over the years to help our cardiac patients. He is reliable in his services to our hospitalists for our patients. ”

The 2024 APP of the Year is Reida Sowden.

“Reida is the only CRNA here to cover all patients for our surgery department. Being the only provider in house, she has to make herself available for all surgery patients plus PAT patients. Even with this workload, Reida provides top care to each and every patient she cares for,” her nomination said. “While the patients are going through induction, Reida always maintains a safe and tranquil environment, oftentimes whispering to the patients about sweet dreams and making them feel very relaxed while going to sleep.”

Saint Joseph Berea also recognizes an Employee of the Year and Leader of the Year who go above and beyond their duties and demonstrate the health care system’s core values.

Saint Joseph Berea’s 2024 Employee of the Year is Teresa Fightmaster, RN, lead for the Specialty Clinic.

“Teresa takes the time to read details on each patient’s history from office visits and then calls the patients prior to their stress test appointment. She compassionately listens to each patient describe their symptoms on the phone and in person at the time of the visit,” her nominator said. “If any of their labs or medications need review or adjusting, she works diligently to resolve any issues while the patient is on-site. She reviews all safety concerns based on symptoms and EKG prior to starting any stress test. If there is any question, she will immediately reach out to the cardiologist or hospitalist for further review.”

Jackie Maynard has been named the 2024 Leader of the Year, recognized for her outstanding leadership in a managerial position.

“As health care providers, we often get told what we need to do better. Jackie is very active and vocal about celebrating the staff’s accomplishments and what they are doing great. She also is able to identify what the staff needs to do to improve but respects their dignity in doing so,” a nominator said. “Jackie has a smile on her face and her positive energy brings happiness to our facility. Her courage brings a reassurance to difficult and stressful situations.  Jackie ALWAYS has the patient’s best interest in mind.”
