Saint Joseph Berea Honors Outstanding Staff Member With Leader of the Year Award

BEREA, Ky. (March 5, 2020) – Saint Joseph Berea has announced that the 2019 Leader of the Year award recipient is Sara Smith, manager, Pharmacy, Saint Joseph Berea.

Saint Joseph Berea annually presents one employee serving in a managerial position with the Leader of the Year award. Selection criteria include an outstanding demonstration of leadership led by CHI Saint Joseph Health’s core values of reverence, integrity, compassion and excellence. Smith was this year’s recipient and was nominated by Bonnie Abrams, coordinator, Health Unit, Saint Joseph Berea.

“Over the last 18 years, Sara has become a friend to all,” said Abrams. “Whether she is interacting with a doctor, patient or colleague, she upholds her reverent and compassionate character, while also maintaining a high level of excellence and integrity. Sara is intelligent, organized and truly irreplaceable. Saint Joseph Berea is a better place because of her.”

Smith is often recognized by colleagues for always putting her best foot forward and giving 100 percent effort to all that she does. As the Pharmacy manager, she receives a countless number of requests during any given shift. Whereas the volume and pace of this position might intimidate some, Smith conducts herself and organizes the work in a manner that makes what she does look effortless.

Smith was recognized during a special event at the hospital.
