MOUNT STERLING, Ky. (May 27, 2022) – Robert Harris, PA-C, CNMT, has joined CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Orthopedics as an orthopedic physician assistant. Originally from Marion County, Harris developed an interest in health care from an early age when his mother was diagnosed with diabetes. He says the experience of being young and feeling helpless in this situation drove him toward the medical field. After a longstanding history with sports and being in and out of orthopedic practices due to injury, he decided to pursue orthopedics.
"I played basketball and had a scholarship to play at Transylvania University but chronic knee problems ended basketball early for me,” said Harris. “So I’ve been in and out of orthopedic practices, which piqued my interest -- seeing how the physicians manage care and get you back to what you want to do. With orthopedics, you actually get to fix the issue and get patients back to the activities they enjoy without pain.”
Harris earned his bachelor’s degree in health science from Northern Kentucky University and his master’s degree in physician assistant studies at the University of Kentucky. Harris is still training but sees patients for follow-up visits and after surgery as they begin to resume post-care activities. He says he is looking forward to helping patients get back on their feet to continue doing activities they love.
“I’m looking forward to listening to patients and ensuring I get them the answers they need. I want to make sure their quality of care always meets their expectations,” said Harris.
Harris's additional training and certifications include:
- Board Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMTCB)
- KY Radiation License
- American Academy of PA’s Member
- American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons Member
- Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Member
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support
- Pediatric Cardiac Life Support
- Basic Cardiac Life Support
- Active Shooter Training
- Human Subjects Protection Training for Clinical and Academic Research Protocols
- Blood Borne Pathogen Training
- Crisis Prevention Training
- Medication-Assisted Treatment Training
Harris has also conducted many research and advocacy projects, including participating in Lobby Day in Frankfort on behalf of the Kentucky Association of Physician Assistants and conducting his master’s project, “Barriers to Lung Cancer Screening in Rural Kentucky.
Harris enjoys traveling, exercising and spending time with his wife and family when not seeing patients.
Harris will practice at CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Orthopedics, located at 624 North Maysville Road, Suite A. To schedule an appointment, call 859.497.4144.
