Nurturing Children Program at Saint Joseph London Announces Inaugural “Move It to Improve It” 5K Run/Walk

LONDON, Ky. (April 25, 2024) – The Nurturing Children Program at Saint Joseph London will hold an inaugural “Move It to Improve It” 5K run/walk on Saturday, June 15, at 8:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph London. The race will support the Nurturing Children Program’s mission of improving children’s futures through awareness and prevention.

“Move It to Improve It” is open to participants of all ages. Proceeds from the race will go toward the Nurturing Children Program’s efforts to reduce child abuse and neglect as well as child fatality in the London area.

“We are very pleased to announce the inaugural ‘Move It to Improve It’ run/walk event,” said John Yanes, president, Saint Joseph London. “The Nurturing Children Program is a critical resource for improving the health and safety of our local kids, and we are calling on our community members to come together and help us support this program through this fun event. ”

Early bird registration for “Move It to Improve It” is $25 plus online fees. The price increases to $30 plus online fees after Friday, May 31, at 11:59 p.m. Registration closes on Friday, June 14. Kids under the age of 18 may run with a registered participating parent or guardian for free.

All participants who register by May 31 are guaranteed to receive commemorative race T-shirts and race medals. The top winners in each age group and the overall winners will receive prizes.

“Let's lace up our shoes and join together for a cause close to our hearts. Every step we take in the ‘Move It to Improve It’ run/walk event brings us closer to safeguarding the future of our children,” said Mollie Harris, CSW, Violence Prevention manager, Nurturing Children Program at Saint Joseph London. “Together, we can make a lasting impact and create a safer, nurturing environment for youth throughout London and the surrounding area.”

One of the programs the Nurturing Children Program at Saint Joseph London is actively involved in is expanding the Eddie Eagle GunSafe® program into Laurel County Schools. The mission of the Eddie Eagle program is to teach children four simple steps, so they know what to do if they ever come across a gun. Those easy-to-remember steps are: Stop, Don’t Touch, Run Away, and Tell a Grown-Up.
