KentuckyOne Health To Support American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life

Relay for Life Events take place across Kentucky throughout month of May

 

Louisville, Ky. (May 16, 2014)—KentuckyOne Health Cancer Care, part of KentuckyOne Health, will sponsor 2014 American Cancer Society Relay for Life events across the Commonwealth.  KentuckyOne Health employees will participate in the events with walking teams, raising money for cancer awareness and research.

 

At Relay for Life events, communities come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost, and to help fight back against disease. While statistics are  showing some improvement, according to the CDC, Kentucky still has the highest cancer mortality rate in the United States.

 

KentuckyOne Health Cancer Care will host survivor tents at the events, and offer massages, t-shirts and more to cancer survivors and Relay for Life participants.

 

“We care for cancer patients everyday and witness their strength and determination,” said Mark Milburn, KentuckyOne Health Vice President of Oncology Services. “Relay for Life is an important community event that provides support for cancer survivors and the families of those lost to this devastating disease and raises funds for cancer research and awareness.”

 

Relay for Life events in Kentucky will kick off in May and run throughout the summer months. KentuckyOne Health will offer survivor tents at the following Relay for Life events:

 

• Bullitt County Relay for Life – May 16, 2014, North Bullitt High School
• Shelby County Relay for Life – May 16, 2014, JCTC Shelby County Campus
• Meade County Relay for Life – May 17, 2014, Meade County Fairgrounds
• Fayette County Relay for Life – May 30, 2014, Masterson Station Park
• Jefferson County Relay for Life – May 30-31, Norton Commons
• Floyd County (KY) Relay for Life – June 6, 2014, Big Sandy Community & Tech College
• Spencer County Relay for Life – June 13, 2014, Spencer County High School
• Jessamine County Relay for Life – June 13, 2014, West Jessamine Middle School
• Laurel County Relay for Life – June 13, 2014, Laurel London Optimist Complex
• Madison County Relay for Life – June 13, 2014, Michael Caudill Middle High School
• Henry County Relay for Life – June 20, 2014, Henry County High School
• Montgomery County Relay for Life – July 18, 2014, Easy Walker Park

 

Note: The Oldham County Relay for Life already occurred (May 9, 2014) at Oldham County High School

 

The largest relay this year is expected to be the Jefferson County event on May 30^th & 31^st.  KentuckyOne Health Cancer Care volunteers, including a large contingent from the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, will be staffing the survivor tent and providing a photo booth to capture the moment.
