Flaget Memorial Hospital Foundation Receives $12,000 Grant From the Lexington Cancer Foundation to Support Local Breast Cancer Care

BARDSTOWN, Ky. (March 22, 2021) – The Flaget Memorial Hospital Foundation has received a $12,000 grant from the Lexington Cancer Foundation to support its Breast Health Outreach, Prevention and Education (HOPE) program and local breast cancer care efforts for Nelson and surrounding counties. The grant funds will go toward breast cancer screenings and diagnostic services for underinsured and uninsured patients at Flaget Memorial Hospital, and will also help provide transportation assistance, such as gas cards, to patients who face barriers in access to care.

“Thanks to this generous funding from the Lexington Cancer Foundation, we will be able to help even more patients in our community that require preventive and potentially lifesaving care,” said Leslie Buddeke Smart, CFRE, president, Flaget Memorial Hospital Foundation. “Treating cancer at its earliest stage provides the highest chance of survival, which is why it is critical for annual screenings. We look forward to seeing local men and women in our community benefit from these funds and have one less thing to worry about when fighting breast cancer.”

The Flaget Breast HOPE program supports efforts to increase early detection and early treatment of breast cancer by empowering women and men with the knowledge of symptoms and treatment options available in Nelson and surrounding counties. By providing resources to individuals and encouraging them to take an active role in their breast health, the program aims to decrease breast cancer incidence and mortality in the state of Kentucky.
