BARDSTOWN, Ky. (Feb. 26, 2024) – Flaget Memorial Hospital is holding its second Green Dot Trot 5K Run/Walk, sponsored by CHI Saint Joseph Health’s Violence Prevention Program, to raise awareness of Green Dot, a bystander intervention training program backed by research and used by schools across the country, including in Nelson County. The event will be held on Saturday, March 2, at 9 a.m. at Flaget Memorial Hospital, located at 4035 New Shepherdsville Road in Bardstown. Registration is free, and onsite registration will be available Saturday morning.
The Green Dot program is funded through a grant from the CommonSpirit Health Mission and Ministry Fund. The nationally recognized violence prevention program focuses on preventing power-based personal violence, including sexual violence, intimate partner violence, child abuse, elder abuse, bullying and stalking. The purpose of the Green Dot Trot is to raise awareness of the importance of this program in local schools.
“We are proud to once again be hosting the Green Dot Trot,” said Jennifer Nolan, president, Flaget Memorial Hospital. “The Green Dot Trot is important to help raise awareness of violence prevention in our local schools, and as a community service organization dedicated to spreading humankindness, this resonates with our mission Whether you choose to walk, run or both, we encourage the participation of our community members in this free event to further help our local students.”
For individuals not ready to compete in a 5K, the Green Dot Trot also includes a 2.5K Run/Walk. The course is a loop around the grounds of Flaget Memorial Hospital, and the 5K is two loops around the hospital.
Every participant in the 5K will receive a finisher medal and swag bag with information about the Green Dot program. The 5K competitive race also includes race medals for the overall fastest male and female and first, second and third-place medals for each age group and each gender.
