Dr. Iram Nawaz Joins CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Pulmonology in Lexington - Archived

Lexington, Ky. (October 8, 2019) – Iram Nawaz, MD, has joined CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Pulmonology at Fountain Court in Lexington. Dr. Nawaz specializes in pulmonary and critical care, as well as internal medicine. She has a passion for helping people quit smoking to prevent lung diseases and cancer.

“I feel that I am called to serve here in Kentucky, where there is a high percentage of people who smoke,” said Dr. Nawaz. “Many of my patients understand the risks associated with smoking, but need help quitting, or need treatment for diseases caused by smoking, including cancer. I’m eager to help with everything from smoking cessation counseling to screenings and treatment.”

Dr. Nawaz completed a residency in internal medicine at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, as well as residencies in internal medicine and general surgery at Mayo Hospital in Pakistan. She earned a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care from SUNY Downstate Medical Center at University Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. She is board certified and specializes in pulmonary care and internal medicine.

The physician recently moved her practice to Lexington from Danville, Kentucky. She is originally from Pakistan, but moved to New York after graduation. She now considers Kentucky home. She has been married to her husband, Amjad, for 19 years, and they have three children, Anas, 17, Amal, 16 and Ayat, 11. When she’s not practicing medicine, Dr. Nawaz enjoys traveling and listening to music. She is also fluent in four languages, including English, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi.
