Dr. Hussam Hamdalla Joins CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Cardiovascular

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 9, 2023) – Hussam Hamdalla, MD, has joined the CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Cardiovascular team in Lexington, Nicholasville, Mount Sterling and Lebanon. Originally from Jordan, Dr. Hamdalla said he has his father to thank for leading him down the path of saving lives.

As a child, he spent time watching his father, a surgeon, which launched his fascination for health care. During medical school, Dr. Hamdalla decided to pursue medicine rather than surgery to have more patient care involvement.

“Medicine and surgery are slightly different, and I was more attracted to medicine with a hands-on approach, but also enjoyed the procedural aspect of surgery,” said Dr. Hamdalla. “As I went into medicine, I realized cardiology brought both pieces I enjoyed most together.”

In 1998, Dr. Hamdalla left Jordan and moved to the United States, eventually landing in Kentucky, where his career took him to Lexington and, later, to Danville. He was drawn to expanding local programs and resources available for patients, delivering best care and helping both communities.

“I love a challenge and taking something and building on it or creating something new from scratch,” Dr. Hamdalla said. “I enjoy knowing I will have that opportunity with CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group as well.”

Dr. Hamdalla said his patient care philosophy remains the same no matter where he works – to help his patients understand the problem, respect their opinions, and to help them find the best path for their care.

“Patients have changed and are more involved in their health now. The internet has allowed them to educate themselves on their medical condition and ask questions,” said Dr. Hamdalla. “It excites me because it’s easier to get patients to where they want to be when they understand what is going on.”

Dr. Hamdalla, who has had research published in more than two dozen health care journals and publications, attended the Jordan University School of Medicine before working in hospital settings in Jordan and in the United States. He has received multiple professional licenses and certifications, including being certified by the American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine, the American Board of Interventional Cardiology, and the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI).

In his spare time, Dr. Hamdalla enjoys traveling with his wife, spending time with their son and daughter when they are home from school, and practicing martial arts. He and his wife have lived in Lexington for the past 20 years.

Dr. Hamdalla is practicing at the following CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Cardiology locations:
