Dr. George Dimeling Joins CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 12, 2021) – George Dimeling, MD, has joined CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group in Lexington as a cardiac surgeon – a field he has been passionate about since high school when he had the opportunity to observe a heart transplant. The experience, which he called “life-changing,” has continued to motivate him throughout his life.

Dr. Dimeling and his wife recently moved to Kentucky from Cleveland, Ohio, to be closer to family, and he is looking forward to calling Lexington home.

“I find the mission of CHI Saint Joseph Health to be in line with my personal goals,” said Dr. Dimeling. “My wife’s family is from the area, and we wanted to reconnect in the post COVID era. We’re excited to be part of the community here.”

As a teenager, Dr. Dimeling said it was his neighbor – the chief resident at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center at the time – who allowed him to observe a heart transplant, and the impact it can have on families. He says he was hooked from there.

“It drastically improves a patient’s quality of life and allow them to pursue their dreams,” Dr. Dimeling said. “I’ve been very fortunate to be involved in the care of these patients and to see them thrive after transplantation.”

Before attending medical school, Dr. Dimeling enrolled in the United States Navy. He later attended the University of Virginia where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree; he earned a Master of Science degree from Georgetown University, and later completed his medical degree at Drexel University. He completed an internship and residency at Stanford University Hospital and is currently pursuing his MBA. Since 2017, Dr. Dimeling has worked as an adult cardiac surgeon in the Norfolk, Virginia, and Cleveland, Ohio, areas. He is board-certified from the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.

Dr. Dimeling is a member of the Lexington Medical Society, Kentucky Medical Association, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Western Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and the Fellow of American College of Cardiology. In 2020, he also began serving as a board member for the American College of Cardiology – Ohio Chapter.

“The most rewarding part of my job is seeing patients enjoy a life that they didn’t think was possible,” he said. “They typically feel immediately better after surgery, and then continue to make progress in the weeks to follow.  Easing patients concerns and relieving their symptoms is amazing process to witness and to contribute. I am always available when they need me. There’s a certain bond and trust between the physician and patient; that is absolutely fundamental.”

When he isn’t working, Dr. Dimeling spends most of his time with his wife, daughter and dog, and also enjoys playing golf or going skiing as time allows.

Dr. Dimeling is accepting new patients and will practice at 1401 Harrodsburg Road, B-275, in Lexington. To make an appointment with Dr. Dimeling, visit www.CHISaintJosephHealth.org or call 859.278.2334. He will also serve patients at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
