LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 15, 2024) – CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Pulmonary and Critical Care in Lexington welcomes Hazim Bukamur, MD, to its team of health care providers. Dr. Bukamur began his professional medical career at Central Hospital in Tripoli, Libya. He says he looks forward to helping patients in central Kentucky, particularly those facing pulmonology or critical care conditions.
“I enjoy helping my patients progress to a complete recovery,” said Dr. Bukamur. “In these conditions, the most important thing is trust.” Dr. Bukamur says he focuses on building strong relationships with patients' families to ensure they feel comfortable and confident in following his recommendations.
Dr. Bukamur frequently treats coal miners suffering from complications and fungal infections due to years of working in the mines, as well as individuals who are immunosuppressed from living in the area. He also regularly treats chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). While he acknowledges that many people quit smoking after witnessing a loved one suffer from COPD, he states that he wishes patients could “see the future and how they could suffer from cancer or COPD so they can prevent it by quitting smoking earlier.”
Dr. Bukamur received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (BMMS) degree from the University of Tripoli Faculty of Medicine. He brings over 20 years of professional experience to CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group.
Dr. Bukamur is married and has two sons and one daughter. He enjoys spending most of his time with his family. He is excited to bring educational opportunities for pulmonary health to the Lexington community.
