CHI Saint Joseph Medical Care – Obstetrics and Gynecology – Lexington Welcomes New Physician

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 16, 2023) – CHI Saint Joseph Medical Care – Obstetrics and Gynecology in Lexington is proud to announce the addition of Katherine Foster, MD. An accomplished obstetrician and gynecologist who hails from Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Foster is dedicated to a patient-centered approach and is focused on making a lasting impact on the field of gynecology and women’s health.

“I think that physical health, and especially gynecologic health, is an important part of a person’s overall well-being that is often overlooked,” said Dr. Foster, “but I have the skills and calling to empower women to be their healthiest selves, to make sure that we are taken seriously and that our experiences are heard and attended to.”

Dr. Foster is dedicated to breaking down taboos surrounding health issues in gynecology, from abnormal periods to bladder issues and sexual dysfunction.

“Those issues can have major impacts on a person’s quality of life,” said Dr. Foster.

Dr. Foster said her patient care philosophy is about partnering with the patient. “I have tools to help the patient through my own education and experiences, but the patient has tools to help me as well,” said Foster. “They know what their symptoms are, what works or doesn’t work for them, what their health goals are. It’s really a philosophy of partnership.”

Dr. Foster received her Bachelor of Arts in microbiology, graduating magna cum laude from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in 2013. She received her Doctor of Medicine from the Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Foster’s expertise extends beyond patient care. She completed a two-year research fellowship at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where she investigated new therapies for treatment-resistant ovarian cancer. She is particularly interested in cancer prevention and early detection and is devoted to educating women and health care providers.

“There are a lot of exciting developments in ovarian cancer treatment, but we have a long way to go in terms of earlier detection,” said Dr. Foster. “There are symptoms that are sometimes considered vague. We use the BEACH acronym to train health care workers and women – bloating, early satiety (feeling full very quickly), abdominal pain, changes to bowel or bladder habits, and heightened fatigue are symptoms post-menopausal women often think are normal. Educating both women and providers to take those sorts of things seriously is crucial.”

Outside of her medical career, Dr. Foster enjoys spending time outdoors and staying active. She is an avid runner and is currently training for the Columbus Marathon this fall.  She is very happy to be closer to home and spending more time with her family.

Dr. Foster is practicing at CHI Saint Joseph Medical Care – Obstetrics and Gynecology in Lexington, located at 70 North Eagle Creek Drive, Suite 104. To make an appointment, call 859.967.5848.
