BARDSTOWN, Ky. (Oct. 23, 2023) – CHI Saint Joseph Medical Care – Obstetrics and Gynecology in Bardstown welcomes its newest addition, Hanna Peterson, MD, MS, to its team of local providers. Dr. Peterson brings a wealth of dedication, experience, and a heartfelt commitment to women's health and reproductive care. Dr. Peterson's journey into medicine was deeply personal.
"I had health issues as a child and was inspired by my physicians and the nurses who cared for me,” Dr. Peterson said. That personal connection is the foundation of her patient-centered approach. “They come first. Their needs will always come first.”
Dr. Peterson is passionate about helping patients improve their lives at all stages of their reproductive years and beyond. She believes the chance to be involved is a real gift.
“Delivering babies is special, and not many people get to experience that more than once or twice in a lifetime. We get to be there for the most incredible moments of people's lives every day," Dr. Peterson said.
In her role at CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group, Dr. Peterson will provide annual care visits for women and offer gynecology care for those in their post-menopausal years. She has a passion for preventive health care, urging women to prioritize regular visits, even in post-reproductive years.
"I've seen women who come in with gynecologic cancers that haven’t been seen in years. People fall victim to thinking they have aged out of gynecologic care. That’s something I emphasize," said Dr. Peterson. "I just want patients to be assessed yearly. Just because you’re not having children doesn’t mean there aren’t still risks. I am dedicated to providing inclusive, comprehensive and affirmative care throughout my patients’ lives.”
From the Gainesville, Florida, area, Dr. Peterson earned her Doctor of Medicine in 2019 from the University of Florida and completed her residency training in Louisville, Kentucky in 2023. Her decision to join CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group was influenced by her positive experience during her residency.
"When I came to Kentucky for my residency training, I loved the Greater Louisville area and decided to stay," said Dr. Peterson. "I rotated to Bardstown during my residency, and I loved the way I was treated when I was here. Everybody was so kind and respectful. Rural health care seemed like a good fit to be a first-line provider to connect patients with subspecialists."
Dr. Peterson said she has a diverse range of interests outside of medicine – from hiking to traveling to being a yoga instructor. She and her partner have two dogs. Dr. Peterson also enjoys cooking with her partner, a chef and owner of a restaurant in Louisville.
