SOMERSET, Ky. (March 11, 2024) – CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Primary Care welcomes Barry White, MD, back to Somerset as he returns to serve the local community after several years away.
“I’m an extremely loyal person,” said Dr. White. “It was difficult for me to leave patients behind. But coming back means that I will get to care for those patients again, especially the older ones who could not travel. That’s the biggest thing for me, coming back to patients from the past.”
Dr. White has practiced medicine across various states and countries, including Togo, West Africa, and Cambodia, Asia. He boasts a diverse medical background encompassing skin disease, joint injections, pain control, and chronic disease management, empowering individuals to start on the journey toward optimal health – physically, mentally, and spiritually.
“It’s fulfilling dealing with people at the base of their everyday life. They come to look for guidance on how to be healthy, and I like to impact that part of people’s lives,” said Dr. White.
For Dr. White, the cornerstone of patient care lies in face-to-face interactions and attentive listening. “If you take the time to listen to your patients, they will tell you what their real health issues are. They are a person, not a disease. Spending time with patients is how we can take care of them.”
Dr. White earned his Bachelor of Science in microbiology from the University of Georgia in 1984 and later attended West Virginia University School of Medicine to receive his medical degree in 1988. In addition to his medical degree, Dr. White was also a student at Baptist Bible Seminary, Parole de Vie - Bethel, where he studied the French language, and the Khmer School of Language (KSL) where he learned to speak Cambodian. He was ordained into ministry in 2004 in Huntington, West Virginia, where he spent much of his growing up.
Dr. White is married to a professional artist, and they live on a farm in Lincoln County where they raise animals and bees, garden, and spend much of their time outdoors. Dr. White also enjoys playing basketball, racquetball, and squash while his favorite activity is CrossFit.
Dr. White is practicing at CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group - Primary Care in Somerset, located at 298 Bogle Street, Suite A, Somerset, KY 42503. To make an appointment, call 606.679.9213.
