CHI Saint Joseph Health Foundations Granted Nearly $27,000 from Small Rural Hospital Improvement Program - Archived

Bardstown, Ky. (August 26, 2019) – Flaget Memorial Hospital Foundation, Saint Joseph Berea Foundation and Saint Joseph Mount Sterling Foundation have been granted a total of $26,778 from the Small Rural Hospital Improvement Program (SHIP). Each foundation received $8,926 to support its beneficiary facility. Funds will be used to implement activities aimed at improving efficiencies and patient satisfaction, and providing quality care.

“The American Hospital Association estimates that 51 million Americans depend on their rural hospital as an important source of care, and this includes many Kentuckians,” said Leslie Buddeke Smart, CFRE, president, CHI Saint Joseph Health Foundations. “These SHIP grants will help us continue providing patients with high quality care that’s close to home.”

Flaget Memorial Hospital will use the funds to purchase a mobile point-of-care workstation for providers to complete order entry by a patient’s bedside. This will improve engagement and directly impact patient satisfaction in the Bardstown community.

Saint Joseph Mount Sterling and Saint Joseph Berea will use the funds to continue offering Advanced Stroke Life Support training to staff in their emergency departments and intensive care units. In addition, funds will be used to add tele-stroke carts at these facilities. This new equipment will improve access to the stroke center at Saint Joseph Hospital for patients in the Mount Sterling and Berea communities.

Funding for the SHIP grants was administered by the Kentucky Office of Rural Health and given by the Kentucky Hospital Research and Education Foundation.
