CHI Saint Joseph Health Foundations Awarded Grants from Susan G. Komen Kentucky - Archived
Lexington, Ky. (July 29, 2019) – Three CHI Saint Joseph Health Foundations have been awarded more than $30,000 total in grants from Susan G. Komen Kentucky to support women’s health initiatives. These funds help to expand breast health resources provided by the foundations, including breast cancer screenings and treatments, as well as financial assistance and other support for underserved women in Kentucky.
“We know that screenings can detect cancer early and help save lives,” said Leslie Buddeke Smart, CFRE, president, CHI Saint Joseph Health Foundations. “These grants from Susan G. Komen Kentucky allow us to extend the reach of our programs and touch even more lives of people who need these services.”
Saint Joseph Berea Foundation and Saint Joseph Hospital Foundation were both awarded funding for their Yes, Mamm! programs. The Yes, Mamm! programs provide transportation and lodging assistance, as well as mammography screenings and diagnostic services to low-income, uninsured or underinsured patients. With additional funding from Komen Kentucky, the groups will make mammography screenings and diagnostic services more easily accessible to those living in the communities. The Yes, Mamm! Berea project will also provide 50 screening mammograms at no cost to patients in Madison County and surrounding areas.
Flaget Memorial Hospital Foundation received funding for Flaget Breast HOPE, which stands for Health Outreach, Prevention and Education. The program strives to provide the resources and support needed to educate women on the importance of being active in their breast health, which is vital to early cancer detection. Funding from Komen Kentucky will be used to support patients and families with transportation assistance, supplies to help in recovery after treatment, financial assistance for screenings and diagnostic services, and more.
