LEXINGTON, Ky. (Feb. 7, 2024) – CHI Saint Joseph Health – Cancer Care is proud to announce that it has earned accreditation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). To achieve CoC accreditation, CHI Saint Joseph Health – Cancer Care Centers across Kentucky underwent a site visit to confirm the program’s compliance with accreditation standards that evaluate the cancer care services offered by the program and demonstrated the same high level of excellence in providing care.
“Through our affiliation with the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center, our commitment to providing the most advanced medical technologies, and our dedication to providing compassionate and excellent care, we have elevated our cancer programs,” said Anthony Houston, Ed.D., FACHE, CEO, CHI Saint Joseph Health. “We are proud to achieve this accreditation from the Commission on Cancer and American College of Surgeons, which underscores the tireless dedication we’ve invested over the past four years to advance our cancer programs across Kentucky.”
As a CoC-accredited cancer center, CHI Saint Joseph Health – Cancer Care applies a multidisciplinary approach and treats cancer as a complex group of diseases that requires consultation among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, and other health care professionals that specialize in caring for the cancer patient. Cancer patients benefit from having access to clinical trials, screening and prevention events, palliative care, genetic counseling, rehabilitation, oncology nutrition, and survivorship services.
Additionally, CHI Saint Joseph Health – Cancer Care maintains a cancer registry and contributes data to the National Cancer Database (NCDB), a joint initiative of the CoC and the American Cancer Society.
The NCDB is a clinical oncology database sourced from hospital registry data collected from CoC-accredited facilities. These data are used to analyze and track patients with malignant neoplastic diseases, their treatments, and their outcomes. Online reporting tools provide the program with comparative benchmarks for similar programs. In addition, the program has access to reporting tools for quality improvement, quality assurance, and surveillance.
“Our mission is to provide unparalleled resources, treatments and care to our patients,” said Jessica Croley, MD, CHI Saint Joseph Health – Cancer Care Center in Lexington. “This accreditation not only reinforces our unwavering dedication but also inspires us as we continue to enhance our cancer care programs, contributing to the well-being of cancer patients statewide.”
CHI Saint Joseph Health – Cancer Care includes cancer centers across central and eastern Kentucky. The centers provide cancer prevention and early detection tools to help patients avoid the disease or catch it in its earliest stages – when it can be treated best. CHI Saint Joseph Health offers the most advanced treatments available, including minimally invasive robotic surgery and high-precision radiation therapies, plus access to clinical trials, support services for the whole family, and an affiliation with the Cleveland Clinic Cancer Center, providing the best possible care closer to home for patients.
