BARDSTOWN, Ky. (Feb. 20, 2023) – Dale Vincent, MSN-FNP, recently joined the staff at CHI Saint Joseph Health – Cancer Care Center at Flaget Memorial Hospital. Vincent’s drive to help cancer patients began when she watched her cousin battle metastatic melanoma. When her cousin died at a young age, Vincent knew then that she wanted to be able to help people just like her cousin. This experience inspired her to pursue oncology, and she is now looking forward to sharing her passion for the field with patients.
“My cousin had great physicians, but the nurse practitioners spent a little more time with her than the physicians had the opportunity to do,” said Vincent. “At first, I thought I wanted to go into cardiology, but cancer is what pulled at my heartstrings.”
Once she started working in oncology, Vincent knew it was the perfect fit. She said the family atmosphere that comes with cancer care sticks with her the most and that it is imperative to ensure the care patients receive is a collaboration among the physician, the patient and their family.
“We get to see not only our patients but also their family members, and we get to know everyone. You get very close to patients and their families, and that’s not an opportunity you have in every specialty,” said Vincent. “Cancer is a complex issue. Patients have a great deal of trust in us, and they trust us to tell them when they are finished with treatment. If we need to change our focus from treatment to comfort and palliation, they trust us to tell them when that is.”
Vincent attended Spalding University, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and graduated summa cum laude. She later received her Master of Science in nursing and graduated with honors. She started her health care journey as an emergency department nurse at Sts. Mary and Elizabeth and Jewish Healthcare System in Louisville. Vincent has worked in the health care industry for 23 years, also serving as an emergency department educator and, since 2009, as a nurse practitioner. Vincent is an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (AOCNP).
Vincent has been married for over 20 years and enjoys spending time with her husband, their three children and their four grandchildren. In her spare time, she enjoys camping, attending church and singing gospel music. She credits her family’s military background and constant moves for her love of talking to people. In 12 years, Vincent attended 17 schools and even lived in Italy.
Vincent is practicing at CHI Saint Joseph Health – Cancer Care Center at Flaget Memorial Hospital in Bardstown, located at 4359 New Shepherdsville Road, Suite 100. To schedule an appointment, please call 502.350.5700.
