LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 3, 2022) – Brandi Botkin, APRN, FNP-C, has joined CHI Saint Joseph Health – Cancer Care Center in Lexington in radiation oncology. Botkin found a passion for this position after supporting her grandmother during her own cancer journey – as a three-time breast cancer survivor, Botkin’s grandmother also battled skin cancer and eventually succumbed to rectal cancer.
Throughout my life, I watched my grandmother struggle with different types of cancer,” said Botkin. “She was the strongest person I’ve ever met, and watching what she went through inspired and called me to my career in radiation oncology. I felt I could help patients benefit because I have firsthand experience watching someone battle the disease.”
Botkin earned her associate degree in nursing from Jefferson Community and Technical College in Louisville in 2004; then, in 2013, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University. After serving as a nurse for nearly 18 years, Botkin returned to school to pursue her nurse practitioner degree. She says she decided to switch because she wanted to “help patients in a different capacity and be part of their development and care plans.”
In 2018, Botkin earned her Master of Science in Nursing and became certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Indiana Wesleyan University. Throughout her 18-year career, Botkin has experience serving at facilities across Kentucky, including a stint at Saint Joseph Hospital from 2006 to 2018.
In her work in radiation oncology, Botkin says her philosophy is centered around “finding common ground with patients to develop rapport and trust.” She says she is dedicated to supporting her patients in whatever way possible. “Helping our patients get in touch with people and resources that can help them along in that journey is just as important as the actual treatment plan for their cancer.”
Botkin is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and certified in basic life support by the American Heart Association.
Originally from Shelby County, Kentucky, Botkin and her husband, Kentucky State Trooper Bubba Botkin, have two miniature schnauzers. In her free time, she enjoys being outside and activities like hiking, kayaking, reading and spending time with her family.
Botkin is accepting new patients and is practicing at CHI Saint Joseph Health – Cancer Care Center in Lexington, located at 3470 Blazer Parkway, Suite 200. Visit www.chisaintjosephhealth.org or call 859.277.3737 to learn more.
