LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 9, 2023) – CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Primary Care in Lexington welcomes Alicia Alvarado, APRN, a dedicated provider with more than 12 years of experience in health care and a profound dedication to serving her community. Alvarado, a native of nearby Richmond, Kentucky, has experienced a journey into medicine driven by a desire to help others and prevent illness.
“I have always wanted to help people,” said Alvarado. “Wanting to do what I can for people and be there for them and their families when they are going through things is very important to me.”
Alvarado’s background includes experience in the intensive care unit and end-of-life situations. She says she wants to help prevent individuals from reaching those critical health stages.
“My goal in becoming a nurse practitioner is helping people prevent getting into situations that lead to the ICU,” she said. “I want to be able to educate patients and treat them before they develop chronic illnesses and diseases.”
Alvarado’s patient care philosophy emphasizes treating each patient holistically, considering their spirit, mind, body, and soul. She acknowledges challenges within the community, noting many health issues are preventable through dietary modifications and lifestyle changes. Alvarado practices functional medicine, preferring to use medication as a last resort and focusing on those changes. She recognizes the importance of convincing patients that even small changes can make a significant difference in their health.
“Patients can improve their health more quickly when they are willing to make those changes, such as improved diet, exercise, and quitting smoking,” said Alvarado.
Alvarado, who received her Bachelor of Science from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master of Science from Indiana Wesleyan University, is no stranger to the CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group. She completed her clinicals at the same practice where she now works from 2014 to 2016 and finds CHI Saint Joseph Health to be the right fit for her, with a faith-based environment that allows her to pray for and with patients.
“As a nurse practitioner, I believe you can’t be completely well unless you are spiritually well,” said Alvarado.”
Outside of her medical career, Alvarado enjoys spending time with her husband and three dogs on their family farm. Alvarado has been an active member of a local church for over 20 years and serves the community through the Victory World Outreach Center in Richmond. Her hobbies include tending to chickens, gardening, reading, spending quality time with family, and attending church.
Alvarado is practicing at CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Primary Care in Lexington, located at 211 Fountain Court, Suite 120. To make an appointment, call 859.629.7245.
