Robotic Surgery

At CHI Saint Joseph Health, we offer robotic surgery across Kentucky that allows for advancements in minimally invasive surgical procedures. Learn more about robotic-assisted surgery below.

Expertise in Robot-assisted Surgery

Saint Joseph East and Saint Joseph Hospital are the first and only hospitals in Lexington to be accredited as Centers of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), a nonprofit, patient safety organization that develops and administers best-in-class accreditation programs for medical professionals and facilities around the world. We are the first multi-specialty/multi-campus facilities in Kentucky with this certification.

At Saint Joseph London, Flaget Memorial Hospital and Saint Joseph Mount Sterling, orthopedic surgeons perform a range of joint replacement procedures using the latest technology to improve the healing process. Saint Joseph London also offers general and gynecological robotic surgical procedures using the daVinci robot.

What surgeries are performed robotically?

da Vinci Robotic Surgery Technology

Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East and Saint Joseph London are home to the most advanced instrumentation in minimally invasive surgery. This robot allows our surgeons to perform the most complex and delicate procedures through very small incisions with unmatched precision.

Robotic Surgery Care Team

The robotics surgical program across CHI Saint Joseph Health comes equipped with a care team that delivers the safest and highest quality of care for minimally invasive surgery patients. From our pre-operative preparation protocols to our Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program and preparing patients for the postoperative phase, our care team delivers.

Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) Certification Process

Members of the CHI Saint Joseph Health robotic surgery team are certified in robotic surgery for multiple specialities, including bariatrics, colorectal surgery, general surgery, gynecological surgery and urologic surgery. The process for certification requires the participating surgeons to have substantial volume (experience) in their area of specialty and quality performance, as demonstrated by a rigorous review of outcomes of the patients who received care at Saint Joseph Hospital, Saint Joseph East and the participating surgeons. This includes patient interaction throughout the continuum of care, from the pre-admission testing to post-procedure hospital care.

What this means to the patient is the opportunity to choose highly experienced surgeons with proven quality outcomes. The robotic procedures allow for advancements in minimally invasive surgical procedures that likewise allow the patient to participate in their surgical and recovery process, with fewer opioids, more activity post operatively, experience less pain, and return to their normal active life sooner.
