340B Drug Pricing Program - Saint Joseph BereaHeading
Saint Joseph Berea, a part of CHI Saint Joseph Health, is known for providing excellence of care while utilizing advanced medical technology in a friendly, family-like atmosphere. Saint Joseph Berea is a 25 bed critical access hospital in Berea, KY serving more than 19,000 families in Madison, Jackson, Rockcastle and Garrard Counties.
The 340B Drug Pricing Program helps CHI Saint Joseph Health hospitals stretch scarce health care dollars and deliver high quality health care services to vulnerable patient populations, including low-income, uninsured, underinsured and homeless patients, as well as those living in rural communities. We provide comprehensive medical services to all patients, including a full spectrum of inpatient services, surgical services, and outpatient services such as Emergency Medicine, Infusion Services, and Palliative Care. The 340B Program has allowed CHI Saint Joseph Health to expand access to care, cover expensive copays, and provide expensive medications free of cost, while focusing on safe, cost-effective care that results in improved patient outcomes.
- Uncompensated Care: $4.3 million
- Community Benefit: $ 11.7 million
(charity care + uncompensated care + community programs)
Benefits of the 340B ProgramHeading
- 340B Savings: $885,000
Impact if the program is scaled back
- Saint Joseph Berea would be required to scale back local infusion services as well other ambulatory services.
- 340B savings are used to offset a quarter of SJ Berea’s Uncompensated Care programs which would require our patients to seek many services from providers at hospitals an hour away from home.
