Public Reporting of Outcomes

Cancer Program Practice Profile Reports (CP³R) are offered by the Commission on Cancer and are available for use by all accredited cancer programs. These reports are used to improve quality, clinical management, and patient care coordination as well as demonstrate comparisons with similar cancer programs in the state and across the nation. Included in these outcomes reports are data on Breast, Colon, Gastric, Lung, and Rectum cancer sites as appropriate to the facility.

Standard 4.6 – Flaget Cancer Center

Study Purpose: Review newly diagnosed and treated Invasive Breast Cancer Cases evaluated at the Flaget Cancer Center and/or the Flaget Memorial Hospital from January 2017 through June 2018 to assess treatment patterns, adherence to the NCCN Guidelines for chemotherapy, hormonal therapy and radiation therapy.

Methodology: 281 patients were encountered during this time period with a diagnosis of breast cancer. All charts were reviewed for date of diagnosis and date of treatments. 59 patients met the criteria initially. 5 patients were Stage 0 and excluded. An additional 8 patients were excluded because of insufficient information to evaluate or treatment administered initially before January 2017. The remaining 46 invasive breast cancer patients were reviewed in detail.

Conclusion: Of the 41 patients evaluated and receiving treatment completely at the Flaget Cancer Center, all recommendations except on one patient who was not referred to receive radiation therapy for positive margins all were within level I guidelines according to the NCCN. All but the one patient who deviated were treated/evaluated outside Flaget Cancer Center in partial and did not follow level I or II guidelines. Hormonal compliance was impaired by patient’s declining the use of blockade. There were no physician deficiencies in using this modality.
