Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition that causes a person to sweat excessively. Dr. John Kiev explains how hyperhidrosis can affect a person.

It's mostly disabling in terms of social functioning. People can't shake hands. Girls are embarrassed to hold hands. People change their clothing constantly. They won't wear khakis.

Hyperhidrosis is often related to a chain of sympathetic nerves in the spine, so that is where treatment is targeted.

We perform minimally invasive surgery to stop the over-sweating, and we're able to put a clip on that chain and we watch the temperature change in the fingers. Instantly, it stops the innervation of the sweat glands in the hands and the palms, or in the underarms, or at the feet. It basically stops the problem instantly with probably a 98% effectiveness rate. The patients do well and it's life-changing for this kind of a simple procedure.
