Irritable bowel syndrome, or IBS, is a very common gastrointestinal condition. And Dr. Tracey Wolford says the symptoms can be severely limiting.

It is a chronic sort of constellation of symptoms, including abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation.
If you are having these symptoms multiple days a week, you should see a doctor. There are effective treatments available.
I think there's a lot of good treatments now. We are getting more and more treatments for the symptoms that are specifically for patients with IBS.
A lot of the treatment has to do with diet. So many patients are symptomatic based on certain foods that they eat, so a lot of the treatment strategy has to do with diet, diet journals and diet alteration, that kind of thing. But the goal of medical treatment with medicines is to help people eat as many different foods as they can, and still lead a pretty normal life while living with IBS.
